Welcome to CharlestonGoju.com!

Come join us and learn: Traditional kata (forms) , kumite (sparring & fighting), kobudo (martial arts weapons) , and Self-defense (empty hand & weapons self defense).

About our style of karate: The word karate is a combination of two words, "kara" which means empty and "te" which means hand. Karate is an "empty hand" form of self-defense. Goju is a combination of two words also. "Go" which means hard and "Ju" which means soft. We are like the meaning of the two words, a mixture of hard and soft.

We teach how to harness the hard and the soft within each of us. We are taught to be soft when softness is called for. We are taught to be hard when hardness is required. Most of all, we are taught discipline, respect, and self control.

Our classes are for all ages and abilities. The class incorporates exercise, stretching, self-defense, weapons, fighting skills, breathing techniques and much more. Each session increases energy and builds self-confidence which makes for a great Karate class.

New students are always welcome!

This site is respectfully dedicated to my Sensei, Robert Russo. His support, guidance,
and knowledge has improved my life tremendously and continues to every day.
